There is an abundance of food delivery apps on the market today that have successfully reduced the gap between your homes and restaurants. However, there is no such modern solution to bridging the long-standing gap between a one-time meal and the underprivileged. No matter how developed an Indian city is today, the problem of hunger is a major problem everywhere, and Lucknow is no exception.

But by keeping our faith in humanity intact, some groups and individuals are working tirelessly to ensure that each day the number of people who sleep hungry is drastically reduced. Akshaya Patra Foundation

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a non-profit organization spread across India that operates a school meals program (mid-day meals). Created in 2000, this organization aims to fight against hunger in the classroom and to help educate children. Apparently he feeds over 18 lakh children every day across the country. The Robin Hood Army is a voluntary organization created in 2014 by Neel Ghose and Arushi Batra. This establishment works to obtain surplus food from restaurants and the community, to serve the less fortunate. The idea behind the conception of this NGO is to create autonomous sections around the world, which will take care of its local community. Roti Bank

Roti Bank is a citizens’ organization whose main objective is to provide food to the needy. To achieve this goal, Roti Bank has a team spread across the country, including a group in Lucknow dedicated solely to the cause. The Roti Bank collects leftovers and surplus food from homes and events and distributes them to the needy. Vijay Sri Foundation

Vijay Sri Foundation is a non-governmental organization, which was launched in 2009 in Lucknow. The main objective of this organization was the distribution of food to the needy poor in hospitals. Initially, home-cooked food packages were distributed among attendants to poor patients admitted to various wards at King George Medical College in Lucknow. Gradually, the operations spread to other hospitals in the city. Currently, around 900 patients receive food every day, as part of its “Prasadam Sewa” campaign. Founded in 2014, Feeding India was established to solve the complex issues of food waste, malnutrition and hunger in India. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Zomato acquired this organization in 2019 to address these issues.
